The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a sobering update on the devastating impact of this year’s monsoon season, which has wreaked havoc across Pakistan from June 26 to July 23.

According to the NDMA's latest figures, 252 people have lost their lives, while 611 others have been injured due to relentless rains, flash floods, and related incidents. Just in the past 24 hours, 10 more deaths and 13 injuries have been reported.

The human toll includes 121 children, 85 men, and 46 women, underscoring the wide-reaching and indiscriminate nature of the disaster.

Punjab has borne the brunt of the monsoon fury, recording 139 fatalities and 477 injuries. It is followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 60 deaths and 74 injuries.

Sindh reported 24 deaths and 40 injuries, Balochistan accounted for 16 fatalities and four injuries, Azad Kashmir saw two deaths, while Islamabad reported six injuries.

In addition to the loss of life, the infrastructure damage has been substantial. The NDMA report states that 1,005 houses have been either partially or completely destroyed.

As heavy rains continue in various parts of the country, the NDMA is actively overseeing relief and rescue operations. Authorities have urged the public to stay alert, adhere to weather advisories, and take precautionary measures to minimize further loss of life and property.
