In a major safety move, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have announced that seat belts are now compulsory not just for drivers, but for all passengers travelling on motorways.
Under the new directive, passenger vehicles — including buses, coaches, and other forms of public transport — must ensure that every occupant is buckled up before entering the motorway.
Bus drivers and staff have been instructed to strictly enforce this rule throughout the journey.
The NHMP has made it clear: passengers caught without seat belts will face fines.

Moreover, any bus or passenger vehicle lacking seat belts for all passengers will be denied entry onto the motorway.
Officials say the decision aims to significantly reduce fatalities and serious injuries in the event of accidents, marking a shift towards stricter road safety enforcement in Pakistan.
