Following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) top brass from the premises of the National Assembly, the opposition and treasury benches unanimously adopted the resolution to constitute a committee to resolve the issue.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarrar tabled the bill to constitute a parliament committee comprising 16 members from both the treasury and opposition benches to analyse the facts behind arrests from the premises of the lower house.
The resolution was presented during the National Assembly session, presided over by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. The agenda of arrests of MNAs was discussed in the meeting.
The arrest of several PTI lawmakers for allegedly violating the recently passed bill of Peaceful Assembly and the public order 2024 regarding rallies in Islamabad.
The development comes after law enforcement agencies arrested several leaders of PTI, including chairman Barrister Gohar, on Sunday, and subsequently, the lower house witnessed the heated argument from opposition and treasury benches.
The arrests were described as an ‘attack on parliament’.
However, in the aftermath of LEAs entry into the Assembly with intentions of arresting MNAs, the speaker suspended the house’s sergeant at Arm (BPS-20) Muhammad Ishfaq Ashraf and four other security officials for the security breach.
“During the period of suspension, Ashraf will be entitled to draw pay and allowances as admissible under the application rules,” the order read.
