Nepra approves up to Rs1000 fixed charges for domestic consumers

The National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved the proposal of the government to implement up to Rs1000 fixed charges for domestic consumers.
The fixed charges will be effective from July 1.
Domestic consumers, who use 300 units per month, will be exempted from the new charges.
Consumers will pay Rs200 fixed charges on usage of 301 to 400 units, Rs400 on 401 to 500 units, and Rs600 on 501 to 600 units.
Similarly, users of 601 to 700 units will pay Rs800 in the account of fixed charges, while users of 701 to 800 units will pay Rs1000 fixed charges from the commencement of fiscal year 2024-24.
Nepra also increased fixed charges for industrial consumers by 184 percent from Rs440 to Rs1,250.
Meanwhile, the regulators increased fixed charges for commercial consumers by 150 percent, increasing to Rs1,250 from 500.
A 100 percent increase has been approved for agricultural tube wells, the fixed charges for these customers are Rs400.
The summary was sent to Nepra after the approval of the federal cabinet on July 4.
Earlier on July 10, the regulatory body approved the government's request for an increase of Rs7.12 in basic power tariff for domestic consumers.
