The death toll from a blast near a peace committee office in Wana, South Waziristan, has risen to nine, police confirmed on Monday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Imranullah reported that 21 individuals were injured in the explosion.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Jan Muhammad said that 16 of the injured are currently receiving treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana.

According to Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan, the blast occurred near the peace committee’s office, resulting in extensive damage to the building.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, though no group has claimed responsibility so far.

The attack comes amid a surge in militant activities across Pakistan. According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), January 2025 saw a 42% rise in terror attacks compared to December, with 74 incidents resulting in 91 deaths and 117 injuries.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the most affected province, followed by Balochistan.
