In a recent enforcement effort against violators of traffic regulations, the police have confiscated over 190 dumpers and tankers for failing to adhere to the designated speed limits and for not providing fitness certificates.

Traffic authorities shared this information to the relevant officials.

A report presented on Wednesday in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that traffic police not only took action against heavy vehicles but also cracked down on motorcycles and cars for violating traffic rules.

A representative from traffic police briefed the meeting that this week, at least 193 dumpers and tankers were confiscated for ignoring the speed limit, 30 kilometers per hour, set by CM Shah on April 8th.

It was found that the owner and drivers of the heavy vehicles failed to present valid vehicle fitness certificates.

Obeying CM Shah’s directions at the last meeting, the traffic police recommended excise to temporarily cancel the registration of 174 vehicles due to unavailability of fitness certificate.

Traffic police also targeted motorcyclists for avoiding wearing helmets.

However, following hearing the briefing, CM Murad Ali Shah directed traffic police to continue the crackdown, especially against motorcyclists who avoid wearing helmets.

Notably, the measures were taken after an escalating number of fatal accidents in Karachi involving heavy vehicles.

A week earlier, CM Shah had directed authorities to ensure the installation of trackers and dash cams in heavy vehicles and verify the driving licenses of all heavy vehicle operators.

A speed limit of 30 km/h was imposed on heavy vehicles. CM Shah also instructed the Transport Department, Excise, licensing authority, traffic police, and NADRA to collaborate effectively for the strict enforcement of traffic laws.
