A recent survey of Islamabad’s high-rise buildings has revealed that more than 50% lack essential fire safety equipment.

According to sources, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) conducted an initial survey of buildings over 15 metres in height, classifying them as high-rises.

The survey identified over 500 such structures across the city.

Findings indicate widespread non-compliance with building safety regulations in both public and private properties.

Crucial fire safety equipment—including fire alarms, extinguishers, and hose reels—was found missing or inadequately maintained in many buildings.

Several high-rise structures in the Red Zone, including blocks of the Federal Secretariat, were reported to have incomplete fire safety measures.

Similarly, in areas such as F-11, F-10, G-13, G-14, and Golra Mor, fire safety arrangements were deemed ineffective. Only a few high-rise buildings in designated Blue Areas were found to have satisfactory fire safety provisions.

The CDA’s Building Control Section is responsible for overseeing fire safety compliance in high-rise buildings, highlighting concerns over enforcement and public safety in the federal capital.
