Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan once again came hard on state institutions, accusing the Pakistan Army of tarnishing its once lofty reputation by allegedly aiding "cabal of crooks."
His remarks came while talking to journalists at the Adiala jail, where the former prime minister is serving his sentences in several cases.
Since his ouster from the Prime Minister's house, Imran Khan has been alleging the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), whom he termed cable of crooks, of orchestrating his removal plot with the help of the United States (US)
"When we were in power, the image of the army was in the sky," Dawn News reported quoting Imran Khan.
According to the publication, the veteran politician further claimed that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (rtd) Qamar Javed Bajwa had provided him reports regarding the corruption of the Zardari and Sharif families.
He criticised the army's alleged involvement in political matters, saying that "such actions have stained its reputation".
The cricketer-turned-politician said that he was being punished by estimating the graph jewellery's value at Rs3 billion.
"The graph jewellery set was valued at Rs3 billion [by the government], but quotations from three other sources suggest a significantly lower value of Rs10.8 million," Khan said, implying foul play in his conviction in the Toshakhana case.
Earlier in January, an accountability court sentenced Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14 years in prison with rigorous punishment in the Toshakhana reference.
Later on April 1, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the former prime minister and ex-first lady's convictions in the said case.
