Pakistan has started constructing a new nuclear energy plant of 1,200 megawatts with the cooperation of China at Chashma Barrage of Punjab, said Dr Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).
While extending his heartfelt felicitation to China on completing 40 years as a member state of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr Anwar said Pakistan stressed further strengthening the ties between friendly countries.
Chairman PAEC highlighted that Pakistan is safely operating six nuclear power plants (NPPs), constituting a total electricity generation capacity of 3,530 megawatts, and all these NPPs were constructed with the cooperation of China.
“Another NPP is being constructed with the collaboration of China,” APP quoted the Chairman.
It should be noted that the projects that were being made with the collaboration of China would start generating 4,730 megawatts of electricity at the lowest cost.
Currently, Pakistan is generating 1,100 megawatts of electricity from two atomic plants at Karachi's Paradise Point.
Meanwhile, the government is working to construct four nuclear power producers at Chashma Barrage, of which two will produce 320 each, while the other two will generate 340-megawatt electricity each.
However, Chairman Anwar said that Pakistan looks forward to enhancing China’s cooperation in other areas, including food and agriculture, Human Health, Water Resources Management and Industrial Applications.
