Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Thursday launched a 'Plant For Pakistan' drive, setting a new world record of planting 109,000 saplings in one minute.
Provincial Minister for Construction and Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth inaugurated the largest plantation drive in Punjab by planting saplings in the Changa Manga forest on World Forests Day.
Some 13,000 students planted 109,000 plants in just sixty seconds on an area between Kasur and Lahore after sirens were played.
Speaking on the occasion, Malik Sohaib urged every Pakistani to make the campaign "Plant for Pakistan" a success.
However, the record was not acknowledged by the Guinness World Record.
Seniour Minister Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb said almost 1.8 million plants had been planted across the province.
The Punjab government also launched an application using modern technology, Geographic Information System, QR code, and dashboard, to monitor the plantation campaign.
The drive was launched by CM Punjab to curb the prevailing situation of smog and pollution in the country's largest province.
Previously, the record was held by Pakistan itself, in which 52,040 saplings were planted in one minute in 2021.
