A passenger aboard a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Islamabad to Paris was arrested by French authorities upon arrival for allegedly attempting to smoke during the flight and physically assaulting members of the cabin crew.

According to a spokesperson for the airline, the incident occurred mid-flight when the individual violated aviation regulations by trying to smoke onboard.

When confronted by a female flight attendant, the passenger became aggressive and physically assaulted her.

“Despite repeated warnings, the passenger persisted with his disruptive behaviour. He manhandled the female crew member, twisted her arm, and struck her on the back,” the PIA spokesperson said.

The situation escalated as the passenger also attempted to confront a flight steward and the captain. However, the crew acted swiftly to restrain him and remove the cigarette, ensuring the safety of all onboard.

Following standard aviation security protocols, the captain notified French authorities mid-flight, and upon landing in Paris, the disruptive passenger was immediately taken into custody.

“The crew members’ statements were recorded, and medical checkups were conducted as part of the investigation. A formal police complaint has been filed,” the spokesperson confirmed.

The airline added that the individual has been permanently blacklisted from flying with PIA in the future. “Our crew showed remarkable professionalism under pressure, and the law will now take its course,” the spokesperson added.

PIA emphasized that French laws are particularly strict in such cases, and they anticipate no leniency will be extended to the accused.
