Prior to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) power show on July 6, the police arrested party's Islamabad chapter president, Amir Mughal, from outside the Deputy Commission’s office in Islamabad.
Amir’s counsel, Asim Baig, confirmed his detention. However, the cause behind the arrest did not disclose yet.
The arrest comes before a day of public gathering PTI had announced against the incarceration of founder Imran Khan and the current economic policies of the Shehbaz-led ruling coalition.
It is pertinent to mention here that a week ago, PTI claimed that they were granted permission from the DC to hold a public gathering at Islamabad’s Tarnol area.
On June 26, Amir Mughal met DC Islamabad and discussed the potential locations for the event.
He had proposed four locations, and the DC agreed on Tarol. DC assured Mughal that NOC would be issued. Later party was allowed to hold a public gathering in Tarnol.
Previously, Amir Mughal had been arrested on charges of attack on ICT police personnel, but he had received bail from the Anti-terrorism Court (ATC) on the next day.
On July 23, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) demolished a part of the sealed PTI Secretariat building in an anti-encroachment operation. A case was registered against Aamir Mughal on the charge of resisting.
