The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced action against its National and provincial assembly members who have switched their affiliations. It intends to lodge complaints against over 20 lawmakers who have altered their allegiances.
Malik Ahmad Bhachar, the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly representing the Sunni Ittehad Council, stressed the significance of upholding political integrity and sticking to party values. He argued that shifting political loyalties not only undermines democracy but also contradicts the essence of representation.
Bhachar stated that these complaints would be formally presented to the speakers of the respective assemblies. However, he emphasized that if the speakers fail to act on the complaints, the matter will be brought to the attention of the judiciary for intervention.
"We've initiated an investigation and are dedicated to revealing those who engage in opportunistic political maneuvers by changing their loyalties," declared the opposition leader.
The decision to take action against turncoat lawmakers is based on the principles outlined in articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, which detail the qualifications and disqualifications for members of the National and provincial assemblies.
According to Bhachar, individuals who switch their loyalties are ineligible for assembly membership under these constitutional provisions.
