An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday indicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vie-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a case related to the May 9 vandalism.

ATC judge Khalid Arshaf heard the case in Kot Lakhpat jail, where the PTI stalwart is incarcerated.

During the hearing, the court ordered the authorities to produce a witness in the next hearing, which has been fixed for July 22.

On July 8, Qureshi was brought to Kot Lakhpat jail from Adiala jail under security and produced before the court. The court had summoned the PTI leader to initiate indictment proceedings against him.

The former foreign minister and others were booked in arson cases at Shadman police station in Lahore.

PTI founder Imran Khan's arrest in a graft case on May 9, 2023, had triggered violent protests across the country, in which several military and civil installations were vandalised by the PTI workers and supporters.

Following the riots, law enforcement agencies had arrested several PTI leaders and hundreds of workers vowing to try them in the military courts.
