LONDON: Police in London have detained Gulfam Hussain Kayani, a supporter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), on charges of issuing death threats against Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and other individuals.
The arrest follows a series of live TikTok videos where Kayani made alarming threats, including plans to harm the Sharif brothers and destroy their Avenfield Apartments residence.
Kayani allegedly filmed and shared videos outside the Avenfield Apartments and Shahbaz Sharif's London flat, where he threatened to publicly drag the Sharif brothers through the streets. He also made disparaging remarks about Army Chief General Asim Munir.
The evidence leading to his arrest was gathered by PML-N leader Khurram Butt, who submitted the video clips to law enforcement.
London police confirmed Kayani's arrest near the gate of Avenfield Apartments, emphasizing that the action followed complaints about potential harm to the Sharif family.
Khurram Butt expressed relief over the arrest, stating it was necessary to ensure the safety of the Sharif family. He added that Kayani’s actions posed a real threat.
Meanwhile, sources close to Gulfam Kayani argue that the arrest is politically motivated. They maintain that Kayani is known for participating in protests but has never engaged in illegal activities.
Kayani remains unreachable, with his phone switched off since his detention.
This incident has further fueled political tensions, drawing mixed reactions from supporters and critics alike, as the case unfolds.
