Refuting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat's claim, party founder Imran Khan said that Saudi Arabia was not part of a conspiracy to orchestrate the removal of him as the prime minister in 2022.
A day earlier, the PTI lawmaker claimed that the Gulf country had conspired with the United States (US) to oust PTI's government.
Speaking on a private TV talk show, Marwat accused Saudi Arabia of being a “puppet of US President Joe Biden” and of furthering American interests in the region.
While failing to provide evidence to substantiate his claims, Marwat suggested that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman may have been displeased with the Khan government, “possibly due to reports of his mimicry within their cabinet.
Later, PTI dissociated itself from the statement of Imran Khan's lawyer, saying Marwat's views on the role of Saudi Arabia in the regime change operation are contrary to the facts.
However, the former prime minister has also distanced himself from Marwat's claim, saying "There is no truth in the statement."
"Saudi Arabia was not involved in the regime change operation," PTI leaders said quoting Imran as saying while addressing a presser outside Adiala jail.
