Sindh govt imposes province-wide ban on plastic bags

The Sindh government has officially imposed a ban on plastic bags across the province.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The cabinet approved amendments to the Sindh Prohibition of Non-Degradable Plastic Products Rules 2024.
According to the spokesperson for the Chief Minister, the ban includes all types of plastic bags, including shopping and carrier bags. The manufacture, sale, and purchase of plastic bags will now be prohibited throughout Sindh.
In other key decisions, the Sindh cabinet approved the provision of 20% grace marks in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics for first-year students in Karachi.
A grant of Rs. 200 million was approved for Cadet College Petaro, while Rs. 16.5 million was allocated for the purchase of buses for Cadet College Karampur.
The Chief Minister also approved Rs. 20 million in funding for the National Boxing Championship.

Furthermore, a one-time grant of Rs. 500 million was sanctioned for the Karachi Kidney Centre, along with an additional Rs. 300 million for the Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD).
Additionally, the cabinet approved the Sindh Habitual Offenders Monitoring Rules 2025.
Under the already approved Sindh Habitual Offenders Monitoring Act 2023, habitual offenders and street criminals will now be required to wear electronic bracelets for monitoring purposes.
