Sindh government is mulling building a Kartarpur-like corridor on the Pakistan-India border in the province to promote religious tourism in the province.
Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, uncovered the government’s plan while addressing a ceremony related to tourism in Sindh, held in Dubai.
The religious corridor aims to facilitate devotees of the Hindu and Jain faith.
According to Shah, the corridors will be set up in Sindh’s Umarkot and Nagarparkar, places considered the houses of ancient temples of Hindus and Jains.
He said several Hindus and Jains want to visit their holy places in Sindh.
Shah added that the government was also mulling to operate a direct flight from India to Sukkur and Larkana for the religious tourists.
Shri Shiv Mandir, located in Sindh’s Umerkot, is the oldest temple of Hindus.
A local Hindu community leader, in an interview with an international news agency, claimed that the temple was built at least 5,000 years ago.
Meanwhile, there were many Jain temples in Nagarparkar, including Gori temple, Nagarparkar Bazaar temple, Bhodesar temple, and Viravah Jain temple.
South Asian country has been hosting hundreds of thousands of religious pilgrimage groups from India since 2019, from the Kartarpur Corridor.
