Six inmates have been released from Central Jail Peshawar following their pardon by military courts in connection with the May 9 incidents.

Details indicate that among the six released individuals, three originated from Murdan and three from Lower Dir. They had been transferred to Peshawar prison after their convictions by military courts the previous week.

Earlier today, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that 19 individuals convicted in the May 9 riots cases received pardons from military courts.

According to the ISPR statement, these 19 convicts, who were involved in the riots on May 9, 2023, were granted clemency after submitting pleas for mercy.

The statement noted that during the execution of their sentences, the convicts exercised their legal right to file petitions seeking leniency and pardon.

In total, 19 convicts, along with 67 others implicated in the events, submitted petitions for clemency. Of these, 48 petitions were forwarded to the Courts of Appeal for legal review, as stated by the ISPR.

The amnesty provided to the 19 individuals was granted solely on humanitarian grounds and in accordance with legal provisions.

The ISPR also mentioned that the remaining petitions for mercy will be processed within the established legal timelines.

Among those who received amnesty were individuals such as Muhammad Ayaz, Sami Ullah, Laiq Ahmad, and others, whose sentences have been annulled. The convicts will be released upon the completion of the requisite procedural formalities.
