The administration of the University of Karachi released a notification requiring students to adopt modest and respectful attire on campus, ensuring that it is neither offensive nor distracting.

Dr Nosheen Raza, the university's student advisor, issued the notification on January 14, 2025, outlining guidelines for student attire and urging them to maintain an appearance that aligns with the academic environment.

The notification emphasised that students must dress modestly, avoiding provocative or distracting clothing.

It also detailed specific dress code restrictions, including a ban on revealing or see-through clothing, shorts, sleeveless or tight-fitting garments, and apparel with offensive or objectionable language.

The notice prohibited students from wearing casual slippers and flip-flops as part of the dress code.

Dr Raza spoke to a private news channel about the guidelines, noting that the university has 45,000 enrolled students and frequently issues notifications concerning student discipline.

She stressed that all universities expect students to dress modestly while on campus, and the University of Karachi’s guidelines are part of routine disciplinary measures.
