Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, met with US Congressmen Joe Wilson and Rob Bresnahan in Washington on January 23, 2025. Shortly after the meeting, Congressman Joe Wilson posted "Free Imran Khan" on his X account.

Wilson's post, following his interaction with a senior Pakistani government official, has been analysed by some political experts as a reflection of former prime minister Imran Khan's enduring popularity.

PTI founder Imran Khan remains at odds with the current ruling party and the establishment.

Previously, on December 25, 2024, Richard Grenell, the Special Representative for the Mission appointed by newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, also expressed his stance on the issue, stating that he wanted "Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan to be released from prison."

PTI advocated for Donald Trump's return to the White House since the US presidential campaign began, with many hoping that renewed ties between the two former heads of state could help secure Imran Khan’s release from prison.

Earlier, PTI leader Raoof Hassan said that PTI representatives in the United States have had two or three meetings with Trump's team.

According to experts, the PTI is drawn to Trump because former prime minister was invited to the White House in 2019, where he received a warm welcome, and both leaders expressed mutual appreciation.

Meanwhile, interactions between Trump, Republican leaders, and overseas Pakistanis in the US have also fueled this perception.
