Karachi got a respite from hot weather after heavy rain lashed the port city for two days.

According to the Pakistan Meteorologist Department, monsoon currents penetrating from the Bay of Bengal are expected to affect the central and southern parts of the country.

The Met office’s prediction showed light and moderate rain coupled with thunderstorms in the metropolis today (July 31).

“Weather will remain cloudy, hot, and humid in Karachi with 34°C temperature and 82 percent humidity, and under the influence of the ongoing monsoon system, several parts of Sindh, including Karachi, Thar, Umarkot, Mithi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Jamshoro, and Dadu, are expected to receive rain on Wednesday,” stated the weather department.

“[,,,] more thunder cells are expected to form in several parts of Sindh and Balochistan and would cause light and moderate rain in Karachi,” said weather analyst Jawad Memom in a post.

A day earlier, several main roads in the megapolis were submerged after heavy rain hit parts of Karachi.

The PMD’s statistics showed that Surjani Town recorded the highest rainfall with 33.5 millimetres, followed by Kemari with 20 millimetres, Masroor Base with 10 millimetres, Orangi Town with 7 millimetres, and Quaidabad with 1.5 millimetres.
