Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that Israel has initated efforts to save Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for over one and a half years.

Khawaja Asif's remarks were aimed at Zac Goldsmith, the brother of Imran Khan’s ex-wife, who recently expressed concerns about Khan's safety and called on the international community to ensure his protection.

Zac Goldsmith slammed the authorities over their behaviour towards Imran Khan, stating, “Pakistan’s elite know Imran Khan is the people’s choice. They will do anything to cling to power which makes this situation so dangerous - not just for Imran but for the whole country. The international community must speak up.”

Imran Khan, who currently incarcerated in connection with vandalism and arson during the September 28 protest, was re-arrested on November 18. This came after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted him bail in the Toshakhana II case.

However, he could not be released as he requires bail in dozens of other cases related to the deteriorating law and order situation during his party’s protests.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal stated that sit-ins harm Pakistan’s economy. He noted that on November 24, the day the Islamabad protest call was made, the stock market dropped by 4,000 points.

"The day they left their shoes and ran away, the stock market surged." he said while taking a dig at PTI.

“When a country begins to develop, PTI starta protesting. In 2018, a clumsy and stubborn person was imposed,” Ahsan Iqbal remarked.
