Apple has introduced the iPhone 16e, a new budget-friendly model aimed at expanding its presence in the mid-range smartphone market.

Launched on Wednesday, the device is positioned to compete with Android rivals such as Samsung and Huawei.

The iPhone 16e, priced at $599, marks a shift from the SE branding and is designed to support Apple Intelligence, integrating AI tools like ChatGPT.

It features the A18 chip from last year’s premium iPhone models, ensuring strong performance. Additionally, it debuts Apple's in-house C1 modem, replacing Qualcomm’s chips for cellular connectivity.

The device boasts a 48-megapixel camera system with two lenses, including a two-times zoom feature integrated into the primary camera.

Unlike previous SE models with smaller screens, the iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch display, the same as the base iPhone 16. It also eliminates the physical home button, introducing Face ID for authentication.

Apple will begin pre-orders for the iPhone 16e in 59 countries, including the U.S., China, and India, on February 21, with shipments starting February 28.

The model will also adopt a USB-C charging port, aligning with EU regulations and enabling its return to the European market.
