Instagram has announced the launch of a new video-editing app called "Edits," set to be unveiled on March 13.
The announcement came a day after ByteDance apps, including TikTok and its video editor CapCut, experienced a brief shutdown in the US.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared the news in a video posted on the platform, highlighting features of the new app such as a higher-quality camera, video editing tools, the ability to share drafts with others, and Instagram analytics to track video performance.
Mosseri emphasized that the app would be versatile, allowing users to create content for platforms beyond Instagram, while assuring that Instagram’s priority remains providing the best tools for creators.
Additionally, Meta, Instagram's parent company, ran sponsored ads for Instagram on the iOS App Store, targeting users searching for “TikTok” on Sunday.
Bloomberg reported the ads were removed later that evening. Meta has not commented on the App Store ads.
The company, which also owns Threads, Facebook, and WhatsApp, appears to be capitalizing on the current uncertainty surrounding TikTok's future.
