The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is set to enhance the country's internet connectivity by issuing a license to Starlink, Elon Musk's satellite internet company.
According to PTA officials, the decision to grant Starlink a license has been finalized, pending only the completion of security clearance. Once this is secured, Starlink will be fully licensed to operate within Pakistan.
“Starlink's license is ready, and only security clearance is pending,” PTA officials confirmed, according to media reports.
The introduction of Starlink's high-speed satellite internet service is expected to significantly improve internet access across Pakistan, particularly in rural and remote areas where traditional broadband services are either slow or unavailable.
The development could be a game-changer in bridging the digital divide in the country.
To officially operate, Starlink will need to enter into a commercial agreement with Pakistan's Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), which must then be submitted to the PTA for approval.
Starlink's service is expected to be available in Pakistan within the next year, offering widespread access to reliable, high-speed satellite internet for citizens across the nation.
