WhatsApp is finally rolling out a long-awaited feature for its web version, allowing users to make audio and video calls directly through WhatsApp Web.

Until now, WhatsApp users could make voice and video calls via the mobile app as well as the Windows and macOS desktop applications, but the feature was not available on the web version.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has begun introducing audio and video calling support on its web platform for a limited number of beta users.

The feature has been under development for quite some time and, in its initial phase, will only support one-to-one calls.

The report adds that while the feature is currently available to a small group of users, it is expected to be rolled out to a wider audience in the near future.

Just like the mobile app, calls made through WhatsApp Web will be protected by end-to-end encryption.

For call security, WhatsApp will use the Signal Protocol, which the company has relied on since 2016.
