78 killed in Karachi road accidents in January 2026: Rescue sources

Karachi: At least 78 people have been killed and 814 others injured in road traffic accidents across Karachi during the first month of the year, according to rescue sources.
Accoring to Aaj TV report, citing sources, the fatalities included 58 men, nine women, 11 children and one girl, while the injured comprised 644 men, 118 women, 38 children and 14 girls.
Officials reported that 21 of the deaths occurred in accidents involving heavy vehicles over the past 30 days. These incidents form part of the overall fatality figure recorded during the month.
According to the report, the heavy vehicles involved in deadly crashes included 10 trailers, five water tankers, four buses, one dumper and one Mazda vehicle.
Rescue authorities have repeatedly raised concerns over traffic violations, poor enforcement of road safety laws and the movement of heavy vehicles within city limits, warning that the trend continues to pose a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians alike.
