Another woman raped during robbery in Faisalabad

In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman was allegedly raped by a mugger during a robbery attempt in Faisalabad, it emerged on Monday.

According to police, the distressing incident took place within the jurisdiction of police station Sandal Bar.

Police said two robbers riding a motorbike intercepted the family and looted a mobile phone and cash from the husband.

After robbing the man, one of the robbers took the woman into the field and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint, the law enforcers added.

A case was registered against the two suspects under the charges of robbery and rape on the complaint of the victim.

Following the registration of the case, police detained three people with the help of geo-fencing and started investigation.

Earlier on August 2, a woman was gang-raped by two armed dacoits in front of her husband during a robbery in Sahiwal.

In a similar incident that happened on July 25, a woman was sexually assaulted by three robbers in front of her husband and daughter in Punjab's Hafizabad.

According to a report released by the Sustainable Social Development Organisation, in 2023 Punjab recorded a rise in violence against women cases, with Lahore and Faisalabad being the most affected districts.

Almost 10,201 cases of violence against women were registered under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the PPC.
