A young man lost his life while attempting to rescue his wife, who had jumped into the Sadiqia Canal in an apparent suicide attempt after an argument in Mandi Sadiq Ganj.
The incident occurred on Sunday following a dispute between the couple over a prior conflict, which reportedly triggered the woman’s extreme action.
The police said that following a heated argument, the victim’s wife left home and went to her mother’s home. When Shahid Mewati, 22, visited his wife at her mother’s residence in Mandi Sadiq Ganj to convince her to return home, the argument escalated between them.
Subsequently, Shahid immediately jumped in after her to save her, but he was swept away by the strong current.
