Elderly woman commits suicide over Rs10,000 electricity bill in Gujranwala

In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman in Gujranwala committed suicide after she received an electricity bill of Rs10,000, it emerged on Monday.

According to the details, the victim used her savings for a life-saving surgery to pay an inflated power bill.

The woman had been experiencing stomach pain and was advised by her doctor to undergo immediate surgery. 

However, she was forced to use the money she had saved for the operation to pay her electricity bill of Rs10,000.

Her son, Usman, revealed that his mother was devastated when she had to spend the money on the electricity bill, which led her to take the drastic step of committing suicide.

CCTV footage showed the woman's daughter trying to save her, but unfortunately, she was unable to prevent the tragedy.

A rescue operation was launched to retrieve the woman's body from the drain, but it was hindered by the lack of excessive wastage in the drain.

A crane was eventually used to recover the body, rescue officials said. The body was handed over to the family members of the victim woman.
