Faisalabad: The Education Department has shut down the only school for the transgender community located in Muhammadi Colony.
According to details, teachers were dismissed without being paid their pending salaries.
Following the closure, affected transgender teachers and students staged a protest outside the office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Education.
The protesters stated that the closure of the school has rendered teachers unemployed while students have been deprived of their right to education.
They urged the authorities to immediately restore the school and address their grievances.
Earlier, adraft for Pakistan's inaugural "Transgender Education Policy" received approval under the chairmanship of Sindh's Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah.
The policy aims to introduce a transgender option on school and college admission forms, alongside male and female options, and to create quotas for transgender individuals in teacher recruitment.
The meeting included Secretary of School Education Sindh Zahid Ali Abbasi, Chief Executive Advisor Fauzia Khan, Director of Non-Formal Education Abdul Jabbar Mari, Deputy Director Atif Waghio, and several other officials.
