The federal government has agreed to rebuild the demolished Madani Mosque near Rawal Dam Chowk in Islamabad, following four days of negotiations with religious leaders and growing pressure from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F).

Decision to reconstruct the mosque at the same site was made after an agreement was reached between the Islamabad administration and the Ulema Action Committee, led by Mufti Owais Aziz, the Ameer of JUI-F Islamabad.

The construction is set to begin on Friday, August 22, shortly after the Friday prayers, and the mosque is expected to be completed within four months.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Muhammad Yousuf.

It states that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will carry out the reconstruction work and ensure that arrangements for five daily prayers are maintained during the construction period.

The agreement also clarified that recent rumours about plans to demolish 50 other mosques in Islamabad were false.

The administration confirmed that no such list has been issued and pledged to consult with the Ulema Action Committee if similar matters arise in the future.
