Karachi: License plate used by an unknown person, citizen receives Rs 50,000 fine

Karachi: The traffic police have issued fines worth Rs 50,000 to a citizen over two months for traffic violations he did not commit.

A resident of Delhi Colony, Junaid Saleem, has received five traffic challans worth Rs 50,000 from the Karachi Traffic Police within two months, even though he was not present at the locations where the violations were recorded.

According to the citizen, another person is using his vehicle’s number plate on a different car and violating traffic laws.

Junaid Saleem stated that he was first sent back and forth between facilitation centers and later his vehicle was blacklisted.

He explained that the first challan was issued on November 2 at Hassan Square, Lyari Expressway, for a seatbelt violation, carrying a fine of Rs 10,000 and two demerit points.

The second challan was issued on November 12 at Baloch Colony Bridge on Shahrah-e-Faisal, again for a seatbelt violation, with a Rs 10,000 fine and two demerit points.

The third challan, issued on December 13 at Baloch Colony Bridge, was also for a seatbelt violation and included a Rs 10,000 fine and two demerit points.

The fourth challan was issued on December 18 at the National Stadium Flyover (Arena End) for using a mobile phone while driving, resulting in a Rs 10,000 fine and four demerit points.

The fifth challan, issued on December 26 at the same location, was again for mobile phone use and carried a Rs 10,000 fine along with four demerit points.

According to the citizen, he first visited the Ferozabad Traffic Facilitation Center, where officials refused to register his complaint.
