Residents of Karachi’s Abyssinia Lines are paying the price for the city’s deteriorating infrastructure, as problems related to sewage, damaged roads, and utility shortages continue to disrupt daily life.

As part of its special coverage series “Karachi Aisa Nahi Tha,” a Dialogue Pakistan team visited Abyssinia Lines to highlight the ongoing issues faced by residents.

Like many other parts of the city, locals pointed to overflowing sewage water and uncovered holes as their most pressing concerns.

Residents said that sewage water has been entering their homes for the past four months due to the extremely slow pace of development work in the area.

An elderly resident told Dialogue Pakistan that the ongoing construction did not bring relief but added to their miseries and urged authorities to complete the work on time to end their suffering.

“Our children are falling sick. Who will be responsible if a tragedy like NIPA Chowrangi happens here?” an elderly woman asked, expressing fear over the unsafe conditions.

Locals also complained about gas and clean drinking water shortages, saying that damaged SSGC and KWSB lines during construction work have further worsened their living conditions.

Residents are demanding immediate action from the concerned authorities to restore basic services and prevent any potential mishap.
