Lyari’s dangerous buildings face demolition as SBCA launches safety drive

The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has launched a demolition operation against buildings declared dangerous by its Technical Committee for Dangerous Buildings (TCDB) in Lyari Town, District South.
According to the SBCA, the action has been initiated in view of the deteriorated condition of the structures and the potential risk they pose to human lives. The authority has decided to demolish the hazardous buildings as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.
Of the eight locations identified as dangerous in Lyari Town, demolition work has formally commenced at two sites.
The first is Plot No. 3940, Street No. 6, Dariyabad, Lyari (G+4), where demolition work will be carried out daily from 9:30am to 5:10pm.
The second site is Plot No. 2666, New Abad, Lyari (G+5), located on Street No. 14, New Abad, Lyari. Demolition activities at the site will also be conducted from 9:30am to 5:10pm.
The SBCA said the identified structures are in extremely poor and hazardous condition and could collapse at any time.
The ongoing operation is being carried out in coordination with the district administration and relevant departments to protect public safety and prevent a major accident.
Details of dangerous structures
The eight locations declared dangerous by the relevant authorities include:
1. Plot No. 415 and 415-A, Bahar Colony, Lyari (G+3): All existing structures are unoccupied, with no families residing at the site.
2. Plot No. 2060, Sheet No. 03, Chakiwara, Lyari (G+4): The structure is unoccupied and the site is currently vacant.
3. Plot No. 3940, Street No. 06, Dariyabad, Lyari (G+4): The building is in an extremely dilapidated and dangerous condition.
4. Plot No. 3149, Street No. 06, Dariyabad, Lyari (G+2): The structure has been declared necessary for demolition in the interest of public safety.
5. Plot No. 3162, Street No. 06, Dariyabad, Lyari (G+2): The site is vacant and unoccupied.
6. Plot opposite Bilal Mosque, Street No. 06, Dariyabad, Lyari (G+1): No families are currently residing at the site.
7. Plot No. 1339, Street No. 02, Khadda, Lyari (G+6).
8. Plot adjacent to Plot No. 2555, Street No. 12, Nai Abad, Lyari (G+4): The building is unoccupied and vacant.
The authorities said all eight structures are in a severely deteriorated condition and could collapse at any time, making their removal necessary to safeguard lives and property.
