Mir Raza Ali murder: Sindh govt defers decision to form judicial commission

The Sindh government has put on hold its decision to form a judicial commission to investigate the murder of businessman and IBA graduate Mir Raza Ali, Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said on Monday.

In a post on X, Lanjar said Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab had spoken with Ali’s family, who expressed confidence in the newly formed police investigation team and wanted it to continue with the probe.

“Therefore, the decision of establishing a judicial commission has been deferred for the time being,” Lanjar said.

Ali, an IBA graduate and owner of eatery Wafflix, went missing on July 28. His body was found the following day in bushes in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar with a gunshot wound.

His family had maintained that he was kidnapped, tortured and killed. Police had initially been investigating the possibility that Ali had died by suicide.

The case took a new turn after his body was exhumed and a second postmortem was conducted. The examination found multiple injuries and established that Ali had been shot in the back, ruling out the possibility of suicide.

Police subsequently added a murder charge to the first information report.
