The residents of a country that is facing financial crisis and had been continously seeking loan programmes from the IMF, spend huge amount on lavish weddings yearly.

Yes.. we are talking about Pakistan and lavish trends of weddings.

Recently, YouTuber Rajab Butt drew ire on social media for showing off money at his wedding.

It is often perplexing to consider why marriage, which is fundamentally a private affair between two consenting individuals, is marked by such grandeur and festivity in Pakistan, a nation grappling with severe economic challenges.

For many families, particularly when it comes to marrying off a daughter, the event can be both financially burdensome and emotionally taxing.

The wedding industry has evolved into a thriving sector. The involvement of various parties begins with the matchmaker and extends to a lengthy list of contributors, including designers, jewellers, beauty salons, marquee owners, caterers, event planners, videographers, and many others.

While these vendors prosper as their businesses expand, parents often find themselves depleting their life savings to fund these matrimonial celebrations.

Each year, Pakistanis allocate a substantial amount of money to weddings. Estimates indicate that the annual spending on weddings in the country ranges from PKR 100 billion to 200 billion (approximately $350 million to $700 million USD). The expenses can vary significantly based on factors such as geographical location, family affluence, and the level of extravagance desired.

In major urban centers like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, wedding costs can reach millions of rupees, with expenditures on venues, catering, decorations, attire, and entertainment all contributing to the overall financial burden.

Additionally, traditional and cultural norms often necessitate opulent celebrations.

As a nation we must think to refix our priorities as the marriages can be held in simple ways without showoff.

This will help the people to be saved from debt and additional burden and also will create good example in the society.
