Multan: A deeply distressing incident in Multan has highlighted the severe financial hardship faced by some families, after an impoverished father arrived at Rashidabad Cemetery with the body of his young son wrapped only in a bedsheet because he could not afford a burial shroud.
According to reports, the father had neither the means to purchase a shroud nor to meet the costs associated with the burial.
After police were informed that the deceased was about to be buried without a proper shroud, officers from Lohari Gate Police Station immediately responded to the scene.
The deceased's father, whose son was identified as Danish, told police that his family's extreme financial difficulties had left him unable to cover even the most basic funeral expenses.
As a result, he had no option but to attempt to bury his son with the body wrapped only in a single sheet.
In an act of compassion, the attending police officers pooled money from their own pockets to purchase a burial shroud and ensure that the funeral and burial were carried out with dignity.
