The condition of Jahangir Road in Karachi has significantly deteriorated, causing serious inconvenience to commuters and local residents.
Dialogue Pakistan team recently visited the area under the campaign titled “Karachi Aisa Nahi Tha” to assess the situation firsthand and document public concerns.
During the visit, residents highlighted multiple civic issues, including open gutters along the road, damaged surfaces, and repeated yet ineffective repair work.
According to citizens, although Jahangir Road has been repaired several times over the years, its overall condition remains dilapidated.
Many residents stated that the road infrastructure was in better shape nearly 18 years ago compared to its current state.
Open sewerage lines have emerged as a major safety hazard, particularly for children. Locals appealed to the concerned authorities to immediately cover the exposed gutters to prevent accidents and health risks.
Motorists and motorcyclists also complained that broken road patches and uneven surfaces are causing vehicles to lose balance, increasing the risk of traffic accidents.
In addition to safety concerns, residents reported health issues due to excessive dust caused by the damaged road.
Several citizens claimed that dust pollution has led to allergies and respiratory problems, especially among children and the elderly.
Some residents also expressed frustration over long-standing governance issues, stating that despite changes in political leadership over the years, basic infrastructure problems in the area remain unresolved.
Citizens have urged municipal and provincial authorities to take immediate and sustainable measures to rehabilitate Jahangir Road, ensure proper drainage coverage, and improve overall urban management to restore public confidence and safety.
