A Punjab police officer allegedly kicked a nine-month pregnant woman in her stomach during a raid on a house in Ferozewala on suspicion of a mobile phone theft, sources said on Monday.

Following the assault by the policeman, the woman's baby died in her womb before birth.

The incident sparked outrage among locals who staged a protest at the Ferozewala police outpost, Kot Abdul Malik. Demonstrators demanded justice for the heinous act of police brutality.

Due to the protests, traffic was suspended on the roads to and from Ferozewala Sheikhupura.

Locals reported that cops from the Ferozewala police station's factory area raided the home of a man named Reza and tortured a pregnant woman.

The woman's family alleged that Ferozewala Sub-Inspector Abrar kicked the pregnant woman in the stomach during a house raid, which resulted in the death of her nine-month-old fetus.

The woman's condition deteriorated rapidly and required emergency surgery at the hospital. Due to her critical state, she gave birth to a stillborn.

Doctors said that the condition of the woman was "still in danger".

The SHO of Ferozewala stated that the police had raided the house of a citizen named Reza on suspicion of mobile theft.

Taking notice of the incident, DPO Bilal Zafar formed an inquiry committee under the supervision of the SP operation to probe the matter.

According to Sheikhupura police, justice will be provided to the woman and her family in all respects.

Strict legal action will be taken against the police personnel involved in the incident, the law enforcers added.
