Two police personnel martyred in firing in Lahore’s Badami Bagh

Two police officials comprising a sub-inspector and a head constable were martyred after they were fired upon by armed assailants at Badami Bagh on Thursday evening.

The two martyred officers were identified as Sub-Inspector Adeel and Head Constable Asad who were posted at Lorry Adda police station.

According to police, the incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Badami Bagh police station. Two armed assailants had fired on the two officials and then fled the area, said police. They had sustained serious injuries and died later due to injuries sustained.

The main suspect in the incident was identified as Rehan Butt, while the identity of his accomplices was being established.

It is reported that his brother Faizan Butt had been killed in a police encounter a few days back.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran arrived at the spot along with a heavy police force and supervised the initial investigation. The area had been cordoned off and evidence was being collected while investigating the circumstances of the case.

The DIG Operations instructed the SP City to make sure that the suspects are immediately arrested. Teams have been dispatched, and raids are going on to apprehend Rehan Butt and other suspects.

According to preliminary information obtained by the police, Rehan Butt is a suspected dangerous shooter and is wanted by police. The connection of the incident with the previous police encounter involving suspected shooter Faizan Butt is also being looked into.

Police maintained that the incident is being probed from all angles and more information will come out in the course of investigation.

Expressing sorrow over the killing of the police officials, DIG Kamran remarked that the two officers had laid down their lives during their official duty.

“We will not rest until the suspects are arrested,” DIG stated, adding that the culprits would not get away from the law whatever they did and wherever they were hiding themselves.

“I assure you that the sacrifice of our martyred personnel will not be forgotten and all suspects will be arrested in no time,” he said.

“The blood of the martyrs will be avenged in accordance with the law,” DIG Kamran added.

Earlier, the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Karim took notice of the incident and sought a report from DIG Lahore Operations besides instructing police to use all available resources to arrest the culprits.
