Karachi is reeling under a worsening water crisis as the Karachi Water Corporation has suspended its tanker services, leaving all seven major water hydrants across the city out of operation and deepening the plight of already water-starved residents.

According to officials, Landhi and Sherpao hydrants have completely dried up, while limited emergency supply is being channeled to hospitals and essential services through Nipa and Safora hydrants.

Though water is reportedly available at Baldia, Keamari, and Sakhi Hassan hydrants, the lack of tankers has rendered that supply inaccessible to the general public.

The suspension was triggered by a disturbing incident on Wednesday night, when eight water tankers were torched by unknown assailants. In the wake of the arson attack, tanker owners and drivers have halted operations, citing serious security threats.

This disruption is now spreading its impact from residential neighborhoods to commercial hubs, raising alarm over potential health hazards, sanitation issues, and disruption to daily life.

Citizens in water-deprived localities are calling on the Sindh government and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly, ensure the safety of tanker operators, and restore the essential service.

In a statement, the Karachi Water Corporation said it is coordinating with security and administrative departments to resolve the crisis and restart tanker operations at the earliest.

However, no clear timeline has been provided so far.

Meanwhile, residents have urged the government to make alternative water supply arrangements, warning that a prolonged disruption could escalate into a humanitarian crisis in the country’s largest metropolis.
