DUBAI: Anticipation is running high as Pakistan prepare to face arch-rivals India in the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Team sources suggest that Pakistan are likely to field the same XI that secured a commanding 93-run victory over Oman, though a late decision may be taken regarding pacer Haris Rauf, whose inclusion remains uncertain.
Both sides enter the contest on the back of emphatic wins in their opening fixtures.
India bowled out hosts UAE for just 57 runs before chasing down the target in 4.3 overs, while Pakistan posted 160-7 and bundled out Oman for 67 inside 17 overs.
Despite Pakistan’s promising form, the historical record tilts strongly in India’s favor.
Of the 13 T20 internationals between the two nations, India have claimed 10 wins, while Pakistan have managed just three.
Their most recent encounter at the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York saw Rohit Sharma’s men edge Babar Azam’s side in a tense, low-scoring affair.
Pakistan’s likely XI for Sunday includes: Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Salman Ali Agha, Hasan Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Abrar Ahmed.
