The ongoing negotiations between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) concerning the ICC Champions Trophy and the hybrid model have encountered another setback.
The PCB had initially agreed to the BCCI’s proposal for a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, which would see India’s matches played in Dubai.
However, the situation shifted when the PCB requested that the hybrid model also apply to all ICC events scheduled in India until 2031, including major tournaments such as the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025, the 2026 T20 World Cup (co-hosted with Sri Lanka), the 2029 Champions Trophy, and the 2031 ODI World Cup.
The BCCI has reportedly rejected the PCB’s request, stating that a hybrid model is unnecessary for ICC events hosted in India, given the absence of any security concerns in the country.
According to The Telegraph India, the BCCI communicated this position clearly to the International Cricket Council (ICC), leading to renewed tensions and a fresh impasse in the discussions.
The PCB, in a bid to resolve the issue, recently met with senior ICC officials in Dubai, while PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also held a video call with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
During these talks, the PCB proposed a "Partnership or Fusion Formula," suggesting that matches involving both India and Pakistan be held at a neutral venue, Dubai, for all ICC events hosted by either nation over the next three years.
