Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has firmly informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the Asia Cup trophy will not be sent to India. He has said that the Indian officials and players must come to Dubai to collect it.
According to reports, the BCCI had written to the ACC President, requesting the formal handover of the trophy after the Indian team’s victory in the tournament’s final against Pakistan.
However, Mohsin Naqvi maintained his stance, stating that a special ceremony will be organized in Dubai where the Indian players can receive their trophy in person. He suggested that the event could take place in November, allowing the Indian team to celebrate their win at the ACC headquarters.
The controversy surrounding the Asia Cup trophy began when the Indian team refused to receive it during the post-match ceremony, allegedly because ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi hails from Pakistan. The players also declined to shake hands with the Pakistani team and avoided interacting with the Pakistani presenter.
This act, widely condemned as unsportsmanlike, drew criticism from cricket fans and officials. Following the incident, Naqvi took the trophy back to the ACC office, informing the Indian side that they could collect it directly from there.
Despite ongoing propaganda against Mohsin Naqvi, the BCCI has yet to secure the trophy, even days after the tournament concluded.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided not to present the tournament trophy to the Indian cricket team.
