The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that India will not participate in the 2024 Champions Trophy cricket tournament, which is scheduled for Pakistan, according to sources.
Due to security issues, they have expressed their desire to move all matches to Dubai to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Sources from Indian media have reported, “This has been our position and there is no reason to alter it. We have officially requested them to relocate our matches to Dubai.”
The Indian board has stated that there are no logistical difficulties in Dubai, remarking, “There are no concerns in Dubai. Accommodation is not an issue, logistics are manageable, everything can be organized efficiently. Plus, the ICC has all measures in place for Dubai.”
The tournament, planned for February 19 to March 9, will feature the world's top eight teams, with Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi chosen as the host cities.
Reports suggest that the BCCI has upheld its stance regarding Pakistan “in consultation with the government.”
Last year, India successfully moved its Asia Cup matches to Sri Lanka despite pressure from the host nation, Pakistan.
“Yes, the BCCI has communicated their apprehensions regarding the Champions Trophy matches taking place in Pakistan. They prefer a neutral location for play, and Dubai is the primary option for games involving the Indian team,” a source disclosed to the Times of India.
