Pakistan Television (PTV) etched its name into cricket history by successfully defending the smallest target ever recorded in first-class cricket during the President’s Trophy Grade-I match against Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
PTV defended a target of just 40 runs, surpassing a 232-year-old record. The previous mark was set in 1794, when England’s Outfield defended 43 runs against the Marylebone Cricket Club.
The remarkable achievement was driven by a dominant bowling performance, led by left-arm spinner Ali Usman, who claimed six wickets in the second innings to complete a 10-wicket haul in the match. He received strong support from all-rounder Amad Butt, who took four wickets.
SNGPL struggled in pursuit of the modest target, with wicketkeeper-batter Saifullah Bangash top-scoring with 14 runs. No other batter managed to reach double figures as the team was bowled out cheaply.
Earlier, PTV resumed their second innings on the third day at 99 for 5, holding a narrow 27-run lead. However, they were dismissed for 111 in 42.5 overs after adding only 12 runs. Mohammad Taha scored 27, while Mohammad Suleman contributed 25.
