Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja gave his two cents on the recent lackluster performances by Green Shirts, which resulted in the loss of the Australia and New Zealand series.
So many cricket lovers believe that Pakistani cricketers after tying the knot started losing focus on their game. From Shabad Khan to Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Shah Afridi to Imam-ul-Haq all are being discussed due to their poor performances, and Ramiz also agreed with the fans.
In a recent podcast, the 62-year-old former cricketer advised the players not to take their wives with them on the international tours.
Ramiz said that he "never took his wife with him on any official tour during his career."
Despite a cricketing career, the player also has to take care of their families, which diverts their focus and affects their performances.
Raja, who became more vocal following his ouster as PCB chairman in the Shehbaz-led government, said he also faced this situation that led to poor performance.
"Still, I don't bring my wife on tour because family issues impact your performance," he added.
Ramiz believes that the presence of family on official tours pressures cricketers and leads to poor performance because they have to spend time with their wives.
“There’s a lot of pressure when you’re playing cricket…you drop two catches, lose a match then return home to change your child’s nappy, then put him in a pram for a visit to McDonald's, your wife will want to buy a sweater on the way. Now tell me, how is your mood going to stay okay?” Ramiz said in a podcast.
The former cricketer advised that it is important to stay with the family for a week after the tour is over.
"Then you can do as much sightseeing as you want," he concluded.
