A new poll shows that a large majority of Americans do not believe President Donald Trump deserves to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

According to the Washington Post-Ipsos survey conducted earlier this month, 76 percent of US adults said Trump should not receive the honour, while 22 percent supported the idea.

The findings also reflected public skepticism about his handling of international conflicts. Sixty percent of respondents disapproved of his approach to the Russia-Ukraine war, and 58 percent disapproved of his handling of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The poll, carried out online from September 11 to 15, included 2,513 American adults. Even within Trump’s own party, views were divided: 49 percent of Republicans said he should get the prize, while an equal 49 percent disagreed.

Among independents, only 14 percent voiced support, compared with just 3 percent of Democrats.

The survey results came shortly after Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. In his speech, the president claimed he had ended seven major wars since returning to office, citing Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Congo and Rwanda, Pakistan and India, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Armenia and Azerbaijan.

He told delegates that “everyone” said he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for these accomplishments.
